Verti-Cut

Verti-Cut in Context

Project Description

Verti-Cut is an easy-grip papercraft cutting tool for users with low hand dexterity. Through research, it was discovered that older adults often feel unmotivated and frustrated as they may not be as proficient in hobbies they may have previously enjoyed because of diseases such as arthritis, which restricts hand function. Verti-Cut is an alternative to traditional craft tools such as scissors and craft knives, which require significant hand dexterity to operate.

The vertical ergonomic grip allows the person to hold the tool using a power grip, which allows the wrist to be in a neutral position when operating and reduces strain on the hand. It utilises a 30 ° angle plotter blade held by a magnet, allowing it to be secure but easily replaced when dull. It features an inbuilt storage compartment for spare blades and a clear visibility window at the base for users to see the blade when using the tool. It is slightly raised with three steel balls for stability and can be used with a metal ruler. The development of the Verti-Cut aids individuals in participating in papercraft activities to facilitate exploration and creative freedom to maintain their mental well-being as they age.
