Project Description

Sony Soundstage is a pair of wireless over-ear headphones with a retro design inspired by the Walkman audio product line. Its distinguishing feature is its set of analogue input and output modules located on each earcup. Enabled by pogo pins, the modules may be attached or detached at will through a set of magnets. Input modules include a button for playing and pausing tracks, a dial for volume control, a spring-loaded knob for track seeking and skipping, and a microphone. Output modules include a digital dot matrix display and a Volume Unit (VU) meter. These modules vary in size and shape, and may be selected and arranged however the user sees fit.

Soundstage elevates the listening experience by enabling physical control over sound. An array of swappable modules ensures the user may choose exactly how they want to control or display their sound, whether through volume, equalisation, or track seeking.

In use, the controls are immediately accessible from the outer edges of the earcups.

The form, mass, size, and comfort of the model are all comparable to those of other headphones on the market.

A 2×2 module slot within each earcup allows for various module sizes, ranging from 1×1, 2×1, and 2×2; this Equaliser (EQ) module takes up the whole 2×2 space with 5 controls for sound frequency.
