Zero (Energy Forecasting Clock for Sustainable Futures)
by Matthew Zabel
Zero holds the same dimensions and style as a clock, yet uses 24-hour time.
Project Description
Zero is a 24-hour 'energy clock' which provides a daily energy forecast to assist you in managing your electricity more sustainably and economically. The purpose of the tool is to foster greater energy awareness and to empower climate activism within the household. Can we achieve global net zero through changing the behaviours and systems of the present? Zero is only possible with the presence of a reimagined transmission network and widespread renewable-only community battery systems, which is a possible future direction for Australia's energy network.
The three information components of Zero.
Your weekly usage bar fills throughout the week with all the types of energy you have consumed and resets each Sunday at midnight.
The componentry inside Zero, accessed through the removable backplate.
Bio
I am enthusiastic and willing to tackle the complex problems facing our world with critical and creative thinking. From a very young age, I have always found concentration, fascination and productivity when working through abstract problems. I feel strongly about fostering feelings of compassion and empathy for our Earth. How can we best reduce harm and build connectivity between users and thoughtful products, systems and environments? I value excellence of execution over competitive mindsets and behaviours, and I try to embody this throughout my sport, work and academic pursuits. I am on a constant mission to balance everything I love to do in my life — from spending time with my family and friends, to sporting commitments, to my passion for travel and exploration.
