STRIATO

by Yasar Tahir Uyguntemur

The STRIATO extendable table. When folded out it is a full sized desk and can be used for various applications.

Project Description

STRIATO was developed as part of an initiative to explore innovative, space-saving furniture solutions for Wilkhahn, a company renowned for its high-quality and sustainable designs. The objective was to create a table that seamlessly combines form and function, meeting the needs of modern living and working spaces. The design process was heavily informed by research into user adaptability and sustainability. Key insights highlighted the demand for versatile furniture that could transform based on context, without compromising on style or practicality.

STRIATO embodies these principles with its extendable design, offering a simple yet elegant solution to the challenges of spatial efficiency. The table can transition effortlessly between a compact form and a larger configuration. Its natural timber finish and lightweight structure are complemented by a robust mechanism that ensures durability and ease of use. Striato’s materials were carefully selected for their sustainability and timeless appeal, aligning with environmentally conscious design. Whether in a home, office, or shared workspace, Striato adapts to its surroundings, offering a refined and functional centrepiece.

A view of STRIATO in use. The table is divided into three sections, with the third on one side remaining stationary as the user folds the other end to create a more compact form. The choice of Okoumé and edgebanded Walnut makes the table lightweight and easy to move making it suitable for smaller spaces.

STRIATO fully compact and folded. When in this form it can be used for storage, as a side table or even simply easily stored away. The table's ability to fold allows for application in dynamic living and workspaces and addresses problems found in smaller work environments.
