Rise Attachment

The Rise Attachment: A modular bedding attachment that transforms the purpose of the room
Project Description
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, remote and hybrid working environments have significantly risen. However, the cost-of-living crisis has also made sharehouse situations more common, making private spaces for work scarcer and forcing people to work from their bedrooms. Research shows this disrupts the user’s associations with the purpose of the bedroom, affecting the user’s quality of sleep, productivity, mood and posture.
The Rise Attachment is a 3-part modular bedding attachment that allows the user to transform their bedroom into a personal home office. However, it creates distinct physical and mental changes in the space to avoid adverse effects. The product uses a futon, a modular wooden slat element and a table attachment to achieve this. The product remains flat with the futon on top when used for sleeping. When used for work, the slats can be adjusted into a seat through the knobs and nylon straps to suit the user’s posture, and the futon can be rolled and combined with the table attachment to make a worktable. Implementing contrasting colours and forms and visually eliminating associated items and routines to create different mindsets for the different uses of the room, improving the user’s quality of life.
